7"x5" Oil on Linen Panel  sold

Standing near the corner of Queen Street on Meeting Street I painted this en plein air looking toward the St. Michael's Church at the Four Corners at Broad & Meeting Streets.  I went back into this and "polished" it up a bit.  I'll try to post the final painting.

"Amazing Grace"

28"x22" Oil on Belgian Linen Canvas

Oh my goodness, is she just the most beautiful woman ever?
I was minding my own business one day at the UPS store shipping paintings to clients when in comes this gorgeous woman to do some of her own shipping.  She is breath-takingly beautiful!  There were a few minutes for me to battle in my mind about how I was to approach or not approach her to ask if she would be willing to model for a portrait. . . finally I had nothing to lose, pulled out one of my business cards, walked up to her, introduced myself and finished my business and went home.  Two weeks and we arranged this sitting and I am thrilled!!
She is my new muse.  She inspires me to paint portraits!!
Hoping to post more like these of her for you!

"Quiescent Ardor"

30"x40" Oil on Belgian Linen Canvas

Over the Ashley River was one of the most dramatic sunsets I've ever witnessed!
The color that the setting sun creates in the lowcountry sky is beyond amazing.

"Rockville Oak" sold

30"x24" Oil on Belgian Linen Canvas  sold

Rockville South Carolina is a charming coastal town that leaves you feeling as if you've stepped back in time.  Many of the roads are not yet paved and the homes are over a century old.
This sleepy, quiet community is dreamy and has yet to be discovered by progress.
Just as the residents would have it.

This particular road leads back to one of the small local churches; a white clapboard structure which can be found beyond and to the right of this ancient oak tree.

"Longitude Lane" SOLD

10"x8" Plein Air Oil on Linen Panel  sold

This is the world's prettiest alley; a driveway worthy of becoming a picturesque painting.
This view is the very end of Longitude Lane where it ends as a pedestrian walkway
into Meeting Street.
I had to stand/paint in a location out of the way of those preparing for Hurricane Irma: covering windows with shutters and plywood.
As I painted, the whirrr of handsaws and hammers could be heard all around.
On a usual quiet and empty alley, cars were in and out of their garages, packing and preparing.  So I had to stay out of the way.
Luckily, the pedestrian part was pretty too.

"Moses - Raising Awareness for Homeless Vets"

10"x8" Oil on Linen Panel

I met Richard while I was painting downtown on Thursday.  He approached me and my painting friend joking that he would love to pose for a painting but he couldn't pay us; he had such great character that I had to paint his portrait!
So we made arrangements to meet up the following morning so he could sit for me and I could paint him.  He made such a fine model and I hope to paint many more like these.

While he sat for me we were able to get to know one another.
He described his days as a US Marine, his years growing up in Charleston and on his family's Summerville farm, and his time as a homeless man in Charleston.
He started the tent village near the I-26 overpass with just he and a friend, it began with two tents and grew to a small village.  He started the tent village because he wanted to help his buddy avoid the harassment experienced from some in the homeless shelter.  He fought and worked with diligence to find homes for his fellow homeless mates.  He found a home for every single one of them and thus was dubbed the name, "Moses," for he led his friends out of their bondage into their promised land.

"St Michaels Church" A quick plein air sketch SOLD

7"x5" Oil on Linen Panel  sold

On Thursday September 7th the weather was cool and sunny and less humid.
There was nothing going to keep me away from getting outside to paint!

This is a view of Meeting Street looking down toward Broad Street (the "4 Corners").
I was near the corner of Queen and Meeting Streets.

"Discovering Together"

14"x11" Oil on Belgian Linen Panel

The sweetness that a mother's love conveys to her baby and the bond they share is so precious!
Safe in her mother's arms, I wanted to portray the connection between baby and mommy as they discover the ocean's endless-ness together.

"A Sweet, Kind Soul"

28"x22" Oil on Belgian Linen Canvas

A downtown Charleston fixture.
This man is ready with a smile and his smile lights up the room!
He truly is a sweet, kind soul.

"A Girl & Her Pony"

28"x22" Oil on Belgian Linen Canvas

This is a portrait of a young woman and her award-winning pony.  She and he have worked so hard to earn so many ribbons in so many different categories.
This young woman has been the catalyst to their winnings because she was the one to train him since she was a little girl (I want to say 6 or 7 years old).  She is now about 16 years old and has "out grown" him (she is too tall to compete with him as he is just a small pony).
So we memorialized their sweet relationship in this portrait.
